The Flemington Homework Club – Jesuit Social Services

With the support of the coordinator, along with regular volunteer tutors, students can access one to one or small group supports and educational resources to enhance their learning. Stan Willis Trust Supported Programs

The Trust has supported a wide range of community initiatives over many years. Its current focus is on supporting participation in education, especially among children and young people, including through engagement with their families. This has been through supporting homework clubs, story building workshops and scholarships. In 2015 the Centre for Multicultural Youth (CMY) led the establishment of the Homework Club Partnership Fund (HCPF) through the Australian Communities Foundation (ACF), together with the Stan Willis Trust (SWT) and the Reid Malley Foundation (from 2016).

Learning Support Programs (Homework Clubs)

Learning Support Programs provide high-quality tuition and learning support to children and young people from migrant and refugee backgrounds. They also assist families to better support their children’s learning at home and in other ways. The programs are focused on both learning and wellbeing outcomes in safe, welcoming and supportive environments. The Centre for Multicultural Youth and their Learning Beyond the Bell Team support Homework Clubs, their coordinators and volunteers.

As well as learning tasks, clubs often also run other activities to engage students. They report that those attending not only gain in their learning skills but also in confidence, problem solving skills and relationships with other participants. The students often display a sense of achievement and an enhanced love of learning.
